Should you write press releases to secure media coverage?

Here’s another mystery from the world of public relations (PR) which we will demystify for you. Do you need to write press releases to secure media coverage? And the answer is….you don’t have to.
So why?
Gone are the days where you had to announce everything formally by writing a press release, it taking days to write, then having to go through numerous rounds of approvals via various people before it’s officially signed off and can then be sent to relevant media.
Press releases are really useful for important news announcements, especially if you have lots of information you need to reveal, such as a new product or service launch. But for smaller things like responding to calendar events like Father’s Day or something that is currently happening in the news called newsjacking, then writing a short paragraph with some statistics, possibly providing a short quote and a photo will be good enough. You can then quickly press send to your chosen journalist and job done. Much quicker and easier hey!
