Five tips to get creative

1 July 2025

Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. You’ve been asked to present some new creative ideas to the boss, client or colleagues, and you’ve got nothing. Zero, nada, diddly squat!

Well the good news is there are some tips and tricks that can help with getting those creative juices flowing and also know that you are not alone. Even the best businesses and brands hit creative roadblocks. And we know working in public relations (PR), that the pressure is regularly on to develop new ideas for clients. So what helps us and can also help you rediscover your creative mojo…

  1. Step away from your desk. Staring at a blank computer screen won’t help and, if anything, will add to the pressure. Take yourself or your team off-site to a new environment. A change in surroundings can shift perspective and with it, ideas.
  2. Go for a walk and let your mind wander. This also helps ditch the pressure. Deadlines are important, but when you’re too focused on outcomes, creativity suffers.
  3. Visit somewhere that brings you joy and ideally helps you relax. For us, it’s the beach but studies have shown that when you’re in a state of contentment you think differently and another part of your brain kicks in which aids creativity.
  4. Look outside your industry. Some of the most brilliant ideas come from completely unrelated sectors. Explore what tech firms, fashion brands, or even local charities are doing. Inspiration hides in unexpected places.
  5. Bounce ideas off other people. Sometimes, just listening or having a conversation with someone else makes all the difference. Fresh insight is goldust!
